Equally Well
Equally Well is a workshop that aims to improve the physical health outcomes of children and young
people with mental health and/or addiction issues through re-skilling or up-skilling of clinicians who
work with children and young people with mental health and /or addiction issues.
The Equally Well workshop delivered by Health Connections provides an evidence based approach to
optimise the knowledge and skills of nurses in mental health teams and alcohol and addiction teams.
This workshop is also relevant for nurses working in the primary health care setting.
Equally Well covers the following topics:




Child and youth developmental milestones.
Child and youth health and development approach to practice.
Nursing physical examination skills required in the mental health setting.
Nursing knowledge and skills required for the following presenting conditions - common child
and youth presentations, eating disorders and metabolic screening and monitoring.
This workshop is delivered over two days. It includes both facilitated learning and an interactive
approach.
The expected learning outcomes from this course include:





Review of child and youth development.
Review of key health issues for children and young people in New Zealand.
A framework to support the practitioner working with the child, youth and their family/whanau.
Tools to strengthen the practitioner’s skills in identifying issues that have an impact on child,
youth health and wellbeing.
Re-skilling or up-skilling the health practitioner’s clinical knowledge and skills.
