Career Inventory (“Career Testing”) Sites
An important word about career “testing”… Career inventories or “tests” cannot tell you what you are “supposed” to
do. However, they do give you language to describe yourself which is especially helpful for your elevator speech and
in interviews. Some inventories compare you to similar “types” of people who succeed in different careers. So, we
encourage you to take an inventory or two in order to help you describe your style, interests, etc. and to clarify why
some careers seem to fit better than others. But inventories cannot predict your best-fit career. There is always a
large margin of error. Talk to a career counselor about your results and why they think you might match different
careers. Career inventories never have right or wrong answers. They help you describe yourself in terms that make it
easier to explore and compare many career options.
Onet Career Profiler O*net. Start with this top-ranked interest/personality inventory. It will help you classify job
types and find information on hundreds of careers. Remember to save your work as you go along.
Psychogeometrics Psychogeometrics. This is very quick personality inventory to get you thinking. You will also
want to take a deeper dive into your values, skills and personality
Skills Card Sort Motivated Skills. This inventory (card sort) is hosted on a consulting group webpage. Just
follow the link below and click on START TEST, but remember to save your work when you are done or you
will have to do it all over again.
Values Card Sort Motivated Values. This inventory is like the skills card sort above. Click on START TEST.
Work through the cards and save your work.
The MBTI inventory The Myers-Briggs Personality Inventory. This very popular inventory is used in
business, government, and educational workplaces to explain why people act and choose the way they do. It
helps to match workplace types with people types. There are many resources on the web that discuss and apply
this typology to careers.
6
DISC Inventory The DISC Leadership Style Inventory. This inventory delivers two results; a leadership style
profile, and a personality profile. These are often used in workplace settings to match the right people with the
right tasks. Be aware that there are ~30 pages of analysis before you print. But as always, save your work.
Summary Page Putting it all together. Click below for a summary page to organize your results and determine
next steps in finding a career match.
