National Fatherhood Initiative® (NFI) is a 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization founded in 1994 to reverse the destructive trend
towards father absence. Today, over 24 million American children live in homes in which their biological fathers do not live.
As a result of living without the presence of a responsible and committed father, they face a host of risks to their physical,
economic, and emotional wellbeing. NFI’s mission is to increase the proportion of children growing up with involved,
responsible fathers in their lives.
To fulfill its objectives, NFI develops and maintains an extensive portfolio of high quality fatherhood skill-building materials,
giving organizations around the country the resources, knowledge, and training they need to provide programs to help
men be the best dads they can be.
[-] CHALLENGE
NFI distributes a biannual catalog featuring over 100 fatherhood skill-building resources, and subsequently distributes
thousands of curriculum kits containing facilitator’s manuals and fathering handbooks, as well as brochures, tip
cards, and pocket guides to organizations across the nation. Some of the resources are used in maximum
security prisons that must follow strict printing and binding standards. Further, NFI’s sales pattern can be
scattered, causing sudden inventory drops, and requiring quick turnaround on fulfillment of large orders.
NFI needed a provider to deliver quality, cost effective solutions that also met timing and specialized
requirements.

Utilizing consistently updated technology and processes including our Heidelberg 10-color and
Linoprint presses and custom bindery techniques, Homewood has led the effort in producing NFI
resources for over 10 years. The resulting brochures, pocket guides and tip cards are distributed
nationwide through social service, health and other community-based organizations, helping dads
learn important fathering skills such as caring for a newborn, how to be a better dad, how to coparent, and more. Other elements printed by Homewood include a deployment preparation brochure
used by U.S. military dads on installations around the world, and the “How to Prepare for Successful
Reentry” brochures given to incarcerated fathers in county, state, and federal prisons.
