New Business
Guard Rails in
attic
Interpretation letter issued by Mecklenburg County Code Enforcement on
9-5-2012 explains when guards are needed and where they are to be
located. If no floor space in attic then no guards needed (SEE
ATTACHED COPY FOR REFERENCE)
Inspection on slabs If a sacrificial clear poly cover is placed over prepared slab, tented so that
during rain.
inspectors can walked on and conduct an inspection then we will
performed that request. However if there are large pools of water then NO
inspection will be made. This includes grade beams full of water.
Duct test and
Energy Efficiency Certificate N1101.9 duct test has to be done and
certification
signed. The blower test is optional if visual inspection performed.

SHGC is needed to be affixed to the windows and will be inspected at the

Bill to propose that the Residential code 6 years and Commercial stay at 3
years was introduce to the Legislature, will advise on progress of any
approvals.

Expiring permit memo is on MeckPermit dated 15 FEB 13 by Gene
Morton Director of Inspections was reviewed in detail and will be posted
on meckpermit.com
Disclosure
statement
New 2013 residential property real estate disclosure form item #24 has
changed and department has been receiving more calls and dealing with
an increase in work on residential property that was done without permits.
This change in the form has generated more discussion and disclosure
within the real estate community.

If sheathing &framing inspection called in together then the sheathing will
be cancelled since a typical sheathing is part of the actual frame inspection
only need sheathing when exterior needs to be covered before frame
inspection is ready.

Retaining walls
Retaining walls need permit if supporting structure or more than 48” of
unbalanced fill question was raised about guards where retaining wall was
close to a rear patio. If you have 36” of grassy area (fairly level) from
walking surface you do not need guards.
