How to apply for HR-SEM Slot
 The requisition form for HR-SEM analysis may be downloaded online at http://saif.iitm.ac.in/pdf1/hrsem.pdf or
collected by person from SAIF office (only 4 samples per slot).
 Fill in the particulars & get DD for the total amount as mentioned in the sample requisition form.
 The sample requisition form along with DD should reach the address mentioned below by person or through post
(No samples should be sent along with it).

 Slots for measurements would be made on queue basis at a convenient time both for the operator and the
applicant through telephone/email conversation.
 It is sufficient to bring the samples at the time of appointment.
Sample Requirements




Sample should be dry & non-magnetic.
Powder/ metal/ thin-film/ biological samples are accepted for analysis.
For thin films, conducting substrate should be chosen. Eg: Copper, Aluminum foil.
Biological & liquid samples may be coated / drop-casted on a glass plate (1cm * 1cm) and dried well before the
allotted slot timings.
Quantity & size of the sample required:
 Powder: 1 to 10 milligram
 Metal / Thin film :10 mm * 10 mm * 5 mm (length * breadth * thickness) approximately.

Charges for the measurement should be made through an advance demand draft drawn in favor of “The Registrar,
I.I.T. Madras”, to the Head, SAIF, IIT Madras, Chennai-60036.
As per the guide lines of the Department of Science and Technology (DST), in all publications of Research work,
where in the analytical services of the SAIF have been made use of, the DST and the SAIF shall be duly acknowledged. Kindly
send us the publication reference (Journal name / volume Number / names of the author’s date of issue of the publication
etc) to us.
