It is the mission of the Physical Plant Division to operate, maintain and preserve campus
facilities and property to enhance the educational mission of the University of Montevallo.
The Physical Plant is responsible for the maintenance of university buildings and grounds,
new construction and renovation, utilities, and mail service. We are comprised of over 80
talented professionals responsible for the coordination of construction and maintenance
of the UM campus. We have an in-house team of carpenters, electricians, HVAC
technicians, mechanics, painters, plumbers, groundskeepers, locksmiths, and custodial
service staff who take great pride in providing on-time customer service of the utmost
quality. We also partner with outside contractors for some technical and pest control
services, as well as larger campus construction projects.

When you submit a work order online, our on-campus Customer Service Representative
receives it, reviews it, and routes it to the appropriate shop supervisor using a program
called SchoolDude.
Examples of nonemergencies:
1.
Go to: http://legacy.montevallo.edu/physicalplant/WorkRequest/
Lightbulb out
2.
Click “CLICK HERE to SUBMIT A WORK REQUEST”.
3.
Enter your email. If you are a first time user, it will then ask you for your contact
info.
4.
Follow the simple directions (your name, your building, and what the problem is
IN DETAIL). Don’t worry too much about the craft (carpentry, HVAC, etc.)
because the Work Order Center reviews & modifies appropriately.
5.
The submittal password is “falcons”. (After you do it the first time, it will not
need a password again)
6.
Submit! The work order center will get it instantly and you will receive email
notifications any time the work order is changed.
7.
CHECK YOUR EMAIL – You should get an automated message confirming the
work order was successfully submitted. If you don’t, the work order may have not
been submitted correctly.
8.
WATCH your email, as you will get updates on the work order, and you may be
contacted with further questions via email.
Event setup request
Key replacement
***To UPDATE/EDIT/CANCEL an existing work order, do not submit another
work order. Call 665-6130 or email umwoc@montevallo.edu. It is most helpful
to have the work order ID# handy. (Example: 49788)
How to Check the Status of an Existing Work Order
1.
Go to: http://legacy.montevallo.edu/physicalplant/WorkRequest/
2.
Click “CLICK HERE to SUBMIT A WORK REQUEST”.
3.
Enter your email.
4.
Click the “My Requests” tab at the top of the page. You should see the status and
any notes that the tech has entered.
Please note that our maintenance shops close at 3:30. If you submit a work order after this
time, and it’s not an emergency, it will not be addressed until the next business day.
The Physical Plant front office closes at 5:00. Any calls made to 6130 after 5:00 will be
automatically transferred to UM Police. If you have a maintenance emergency, the UM
Police will contact the appropriate maintenance employee.

Event Setup
Please submit your event setup request as early as possible
– at least 3 days in advance! We cannot guarantee that
the personnel or items will be available if you make a late
request. When submitting an event setup work request, it’s
helpful if you include the name and date of the event.
Keep these things in mind when
submitting a work request:
1.
Don’t forget your
building and room
number.
2.
Use detail in your
problem description.
Your request is
reviewed by the CSR, so
any incorrect
classifications are fixed
before routing.
Be specific with quantities of chairs, tables, etc. desired
because these are claimed by reservation. ***Chairs do not
automatically come with tables. If you want tables AND
chairs, you must specify.
Charges are as follows:

Labor Charge: Minimum $15.00 and $15.00 per additional employee hour

Moving of Picnic Tables: $23.50 per hour, per person (typically requires two workers and
additional equipment)

20' X 20' Tent Rental: $130.00 each (includes set-up and takedown)
If your event is on the Central Calendar, HVAC will be scheduled appropriately. If not,
DON’T FORGET to submit a work order for the HVAC to be on during your event
times. This request must be made as early as possible before the event.
