Learning new material without being taught
The Kumon Program is a home-based education system that
aims to develop students' academic ability and independence.
Kumon materials incorporate methods for introducing new content
in a way that enables students to learn without directly being
taught even after advancing beyond school grade level. Students
are given an example when a concept is introduced for the first
time in the worksheets. The worksheets increase in difficulty in
small increments in order for students to learn on their own more
easily. This makes it possible for students to form connections in
their minds between the new concepts and topics they have already studied.
Through individualized instruction, Kumon pursues the potential
of each child to fully develop his or her academic ability and independence. The Kumon Instructor motivates students to have a
sense of ownership and positive attitude towards study. During
class, the Instructor observes and individually guides students by
providing hints and helpful feedback. This instructional approach
develops the students' ability to reason and think logically.
To fully experience all of the benefits of the program, Kumon
strives to cultivate confident students who are learning material
three years or more beyond grade level. Advancing beyond
school grade level provides an opportunity for students to be introduced to new concepts earlier than at school in order to stay
one step ahead. Being able to learn independently is a valuable
skill that can drive success in school and then beyond.
Parent Conferences-April 2016
Schedule a parent conference.
A scheduled parent conference provides you with one-onone time to discuss your child's progress and goals in Kumon. The value of learning independently may take on a
new meaning for you. Understanding the benefits of studying material above grade level in Kumon may have greater
significance to you one year later.
We encourage you to set up an appointment for a parent
conference to address the things that matter most to you.
By spending just a few minutes discussing your child's immediate and long-term goals, you will learn how far your
child can truly go on his Kumon journey.

Corrections - only days
When we make mistakes in life, and in Kumon, we have a unique opportunity to learn from those errors. Having a positive attitude about
fixing your work is important. First you must analyze the problem to see
where you went wrong. Leave the portion of the solution that is correct,
and only fix the part that is wrong. Sometimes when students have many corrections we will schedule a corrections-only day in class to observe their ability to
correct with a positive attitude.

Kumon Class Reminders
•As we continue to grow here at Kumon it can get quite
noisy in the waiting area. Be mindful that students are
studying in the classroom. Please take conversations and
rambunctious siblings outside.
•Home grading is an essential element of the Kumon
Method of Learning. Students learn more, retain more
and progress faster when their work is graded and corrected each day. Kumon students also respect their parents more if they participate in the Kumon process each
day.
•Absent unexpectedly?
Please send text message to 416-525-6832 if you need us
to leave the assignments in the mail box or you can pick it
up the assignments the next class day.
