COURSE REQUIREMENTS
Exams:
There are required on campus meetings for all exams. There are 2 exams
and a final, comprehensive exam. Because of the numerous exam times and
locations, no make-up exams will be given. The two exams and the final exam
will be proctored, paper and pencil exams. These examinations will be given
according to the Virtual Campus Testing Schedule. The exams are worth 175
points each and the final exam is worth 250 points.
Quizzes:
There will be five quizzes @ 40 points each for a total of 200 possible points. There
will be one extra quiz at the end of the course that may be used as either a make-up for
a missed quiz, or as extra credit points. Therefore there will be no make-up for missed
quizzes. Any missed quiz will receive a grade of zero (0). Quizzes are completed
online with a time limit and may only be entered once. Once begun, the quiz must be
completed. It is the student’s responsibility to be sure that all plug-ins are working
properly before beginning the quiz.
Graded Online Homework: There will be 10 graded online assignments @ 10 points each for
a total of 100 points. There is an extra homework assignment at the end of the course
that may be used either for make-up or extra credit. Therefore there will be no makeup for missed online homework. Do not dismiss these as unimportant. Each point
counts as much as a point on an exam. Each homework may be entered as many times
as you wish until you get a perfect score.
Graded Unit Assignments: There will be five unit assignments @ 25 points each for a total of 125
points. These are paper/pencil assignments (not online). The assignments must be
submitted electronically (as WORD documents or pdf files) through the Assignment
Drop-Box (in D2L), and have a specific due date. NO assignment will be accepted
late. Please be sure to submit these assignments as a multipage pdf. Please see the
directions for submitting these assignments on the D2L course homepage.
Homework: The general homework assignment is all the odd problems in the sections indicated
as “Reading” in the daily outline below. Use the appropriate Discussion Board
topic to ask/answer questions on the homework attempted. This homework
and discussion board postings are not graded, but you are expected to participate.
Getting Help: Students are strongly encouraged to contact the instructor for help during the
posted office hours or by appointment in Open Office. I am here to assist you
in your learning so please contact me with your questions. Tutoring is
available in the Learning Centers at all regional campuses. In addition, online
tutoring is available and provided by SMARTHINKING and MyMathLab.
For SMARTHINKING, go to www.hacc.edu for registration information.

Weekly Assignments: The following table gives the reading, suggested homework
assignments, assigned online homework, quizzes and exams.
This should give you a good
idea of how you should be pacing yourself through the course. The suggested homework
covers all the required concepts. The answers to the odd problems are in the back of your
book so that you can check your own work. I strongly suggest that you take advantage of the
video clips associated with each of the sections and the multimedia text book. Both of these
will help you understand the material. You should also take full advantage of the tutorials and
practice assignments in the multimedia textbook.
Note: The following schedule is subject to change. The Daily Outline will
be posted on the first day of class in D2L with actual due dates. The dates
as posted here are just to give you an idea of the pace of the class. It is
highly recommended that you print out the Daily Schedule posted on the
first day of class so that you are aware of all due dates. Failing to check
dates is not a sufficient excuse for missing an assignment. No assignments
will be accepted late.
