Germans are raising their glasses to the 25th anniversary of the Fall of Berlin Wall that led to German and European reunification. Poles are celebrating their decade of EU membership as an example of successful political and economic transformation. And Ukrainians? Almost ten years after the Orange Revolution, they are facing severe economic and political challenges and the biggest European crisis after the Cold War makes the East and West clash again. Europe in the 21st century – a success story of peaceful cooperation and keeping good terms with the neighbours or an example of lost opportunities and bad decisions? This is what we want to discuss with 30 young Europeans from Germany, Poland and Ukraine during a one-week seminar and workshop in Berlin. We plan to bring together young people with different national backgrounds (students, disseminators, young activists), get to know their point of view and engage them in various activities that change their national perspective of thinking about the European project. We want an interactive exchange of knowledge, opinions and contacts and a constructive discussion about German-Polish-Ukrainian cooperation on a faceto-face level. Additionally, we wish to view these aspects in the context of political, economic and sociocultural transformation and democratisation after 1989, the question of integration and post-soviet disintegration in Europe, success and failure of international politics. One week of meetings with experts of different origins, study trips, joint presentations (incl. innovative formats such as pecha kucha), group discussions, a scenario workshop and debates will enable the participants not only to deepen their knowledge but will also strengthen their intercultural competence and their rhetoric and writing skills. A common virtual space supervised by the partner organisations will bring participants together a few weeks ahead of the seminar and give them the possibility to shape the meeting Berlin actively via thematic working groups and allow them to stay in touch after the seminar. Jointly elaborated scenarios – a final outcome of the seminar – will document the workshop from the participants’ point of view. The seminar will be held in English, short language trainings in German, Polish and Ukrainian will be used as cultural ice breakers. Thanks to our funding institutions we are able to cover most of the costs of your stay in Berlin (six nights in a double/triple room, including board, transportation costs within the programme and expenditures for working material). Nevertheless we need to charge a small participation fee: - 99,- euros for participants from Germany - 85,- euros for participants from Poland - 39,- euros for participants from Ukraine - 69,- euros for participants living in Berlin who do not need accommodation Participants from Poland and Ukraine might have the possibility to receive a partial refund of travel costs. The target group of the seminar and workshop are students and young adults (19 to 26 years old). German participants please send their registration form to Claudia Rehrs (cr@eab-berlin.eu), participants from Poland to Marek Peda (m.peda@schuman.pl) and participants from Ukraine please apply to Ganna Grebennikova (ann.grebenn@gmail.com). Should you have any further questions or need information, please do not hesitate to contact Claudia Rehrs by e-mail or phone (0049 30 895951-37).
