Assistant / Associate Professor in Electrical Engineering (With Specialization
in Electromagnetic Theory)
Position Description:
The College of Engineering at A'Sharqiyah University, Oman is seeking a full-time faculty
member in Electrical Engineering (with specialization in Electromagnetic Theory). Interested
candidates are requested to submit an application package including a statement of interest,
detailed curriculum vitae with names and addresses of three referees.
Qualification & Professional Experience:
a. Candidate should have Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering (with specialization in
Electromagnetic Theory) and B.Sc. (Eng.) Honors Degree in Electrical Engineering
b. Several years’ experience in industry, research and University teaching
c. Experience of teaching at Diploma and Degree levels
d. Relevant practical experience in industry
e. Excellent Publications Record
Mandatory Skills:

Ability to lecture to undergraduate and postgraduate students

Ability to develop course and program materials

Ability to provide tutorial and academic advice to undergraduate and postgraduate
students

Competence in IT skills

Ability to demonstrate leadership in outreach activities

Ability to attend University as required for scheduled teaching, relevant meetings and
student support.
Desired Skills:

Ability to develop and maintain a research program and to publish in international
journals

Ability to secure research funds from external sources

Ability to offer consultancy services to industry and generate external income.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Teaching

To be responsible for the design and content of specific areas of teaching and learning
within the College’s programs with an emphasis on Electromagnetic Theory, Microwave
Engineering, Antenna Theory and Design etc. Ability to teach other courses in Electrical
Engineering such as Circuit Theory would be an advantage.

To contribute to teaching and ongoing development of appropriate courses within the
teaching programs in the College.

To teach undergraduate and at a later stage, postgraduate students and associated
examining processes.

To provide academic support and advice to College students.

To promote the use of a range of methods and techniques in teaching, learning and
assessment.

To engage in the regular evaluation and development of courses in terms of content,
delivery and assessment.

To develop placement schemes with companies in Oman and the Gulf region for
engineering students.

To develop market strategies for recruiting Omani, GCC and international students to
meet target numbers for engineering programs.
Research and Consultancy

To pursue an internationally recognized program of research consistent with the research
priorities of the College.

To publish the outcomes of research in outlets of international standing.

To actively seek and secure external research funding.

To supervise and manage research projects.

To collaborate in research initiatives with colleagues beyond the College of Engineering
as appropriate.

To develop research and development collaborations with industry to secure additional
research funding and consultancy income.

To contribute to public engagement with research.
Contribution to External Engagement

To be involved in activities to raise the regional, national and international profile of the
College and indeed the University.

To forge advantageous relationships with key local and national bodies, organizations
and companies.
Other related activities and functions

To carry out specific College roles and functions as may be reasonably required.

To engage in training programs and continuous professional development which is
consistent with the needs and aspirations of the Lecturer and the College

To take part in and manage, if required, staff seminars or more cross-college activities,
functions and events such as Open days, and student recruitment events.

To diligently support quality assurance and enhancement measures within the College
and the University (e.g. by reviewing delivered courses annually, setting and receiving
student feedback questionnaires)

To undertake any such duties as may be reasonably requested that are commensurate with
the nature and grade of the post.
Remuneration:
The new start-up university is located 140 km from Muscat in Ibra, Oman. Oman is a tax free
country. A generous remuneration package is provided for the faculty members and their
dependents. If position is accepted, starting date will be September, 2015.
