This course provides the opportunity to learn about the industrial induction and dc motors. Participant will be
introduced to the concept of various types of dc motors and induction motors. Details explanation on the
conventional and electronics based speed and torque controllers for both types of motors will be given. The
highlight of this course is discussion on the practical problems associated to these motors which includes all
new issues with variable speed drives, and their remedies to assist personnel for maintenance purposes. With
the detail understanding of the electric motors and variable speed drives, this course will help participant to
troubleshoot the motor system to minimize overall cost of maintenance.

R. Gobbi received the Bachelor degree in electrical engineering from University of
Technology, Malaysia, and the Master degree in technology management from the
National University of Malaysia, and the Ph.D. degree in the area of torque control of
switched reluctance motors from Multimedia University, Cyberjaya, Malaysia. He has
been associated with technical education for more than ten years. He was an R&D
