Yr 7 Mapping Connections Homework 5: 6‐Figure Grid References

This is how to work out the 6 figure grid reference
for the petrol station:
1. Find the big square it is found in. Here it is highlighted
it in red.
2. Now work out the 4 figure grid reference. To do this find numbers of the
line (Easting) to the left of the square and then the line on the bottom
(Northing) of the square. Above they are highlighted in blue.
3. Write it down but leave a space to fill in the 6‐figure grid
references e.g. 10_, 85_
4. Now fill in the 6‐figure grid reference by counting how far the petrol
station is between 10 and 11 along the bottom and how far up it is from
85 to 86. Use the black dotted lines and red numbers to check your answer.
5. Did you get 107, 853? If you did then well done, have a go at the
homework! Remember to always go along the corridor and then up the stairs!
