Cool Down your Angry Bird
Aryn Vander Galien, School Counseling Intern
Anyone big or small can get angry sometimes. When children get caught up with angry
feelings it can be quite difficult for them because their bodies get ready to fight when
they are angry. Teaching children steps to cool down their anger can help. It is ok for
kids and adults to feel mad or frustrated however we should remind our kids to choose
healthy outlets for their frustration.
Different strategies to cooling down include:

Choose a physical activity

Breathe deeply

Count to 10

Sit and think

Drink some water

Think of a happy place

Smile anyway

Talk to someone

Find a quiet spot or cool down space

Write about it

Draw a picture
