Dear Sir/Madam,

I am interested in the position of software engineering at Yelp. I heard of the position through a job search website. My technical skills, experience and educational background are in sync with the position being offered. I am a student presently following my last term of graduate study at the Viterbi school of engineering, pursuing a master’s degree in Computer Science. My graduation month is going to be May

2012.

My curriculum comprised of courses like Computer Networks, Computer Communications, Analysis of

Algorithms, Operating system design, Web Technologies, User Interface Design, Advanced mobile devices and gaming platforms.

Before attending graduate school, I also worked for Cognizant technology solutions as a programmer analyst for a short time. It gave me some experience of working with projects on a commercial level. Our project provided services to companies and firms for keeping track of their huge network of employees.

I feel like I can really fit in fast for this position, because I read through the skills you are looking for and really think I can relate to all of them. With sufficient or minimal training, I can quickly learn the ropes of this engineering position and help your team do better. I have great team work and communication skills which would be extremely helpful to the work environment.

I possess knowledge of programming concepts and object oriented scalable programming. My specialization has been mostly around network programming. My work in computer networks courses and computer communications involved making socket programming server/client based interactions for various simulations. I also did preliminary work in network simulators (ns language) being used at ISI tech at USC. Most of our socket programming code was done in C/C++ on Unix based Solaris operating systems. We used the GNU compiler environment. In operating system design, we designed and developed a simulated network operating system that followed server security protocols and communicated via remote procedure calls using C/C++. I have also used network sniffing tool Wireshark for my network projects and possess fairly well knowledge of using its features. I have knowledge of algorithm design and am fairly good with analyzing and developing algorithms and logic. My basic knowledge of data structures and other concepts related to core computer science is also very stable.

I also have experience with web development. I currently work at the USC LAW School web development department (student part time job), and actively manage their network of websites and database administration along with the supervisors. I am also great at working in a team environment. I have a great rapport with people of all cultures and ethnicities. Having lived in a multicultural country, followed by my education at USC and life in Los Angeles, I have developed a love for interacting with different people and communicating ideas with them.

My submitted resume will contain any additional information you may need about my technical skills. To get to know me as a person, I would gladly join you for coffee on any day comfortable. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Karan Goswami
