Why does Democritis say that Legos are the universal toy?
Legos resemble an atom as they can be put together to form larger and more
complex things. Democritis defined an atom as the smallest undividable material. We
also discussed that the reason Democritis is best known out of the philosophers
previously mentioned is because he took the different ideas and theories such as the
concepts of earth, wind, and fire and formulated his own theory about Atoms.
Do you believe in fate?
Ancient Greeks did. Discussed Oracle of Delphi, Oedipus Rex. Typical oracle
responses would be very vague and were left up to the priests to interpret. The most
common type of prophecies used today are horoscopes and the signs of the Zodiac.
What governs the course of history? (Human, World)
We said that the people in power and the victors of wars usually determine human
history. The Greeks believed that fate governed the course of history.
The history of the world on the other hand we felt that was mostly governed by
environmental issues. For example, the changes in climate, shifting of the tectonic plates,
and the greenhouse effect.
The last major question discussed was if you think you are of free will and can choose
your path, but some other entity knows already what is going to happen, is your path
predestined?
Chaos Theory – Everything affects everything. Even the smallest of things can have
large effects.
