Project Description (max 140 words)
Our Project is researching the uses of rain gardens at Evergreen. We are purposing building a
larger rain garden in Red Square and smaller ones on roofs around campus. The gardens would
be planted with native edible plants. Also exploiting the possibility of generation power or
collecting grey water in the gardens.
Project Timeline: Please describe the timeline for your project from start to finish (max 140
words)
Winter Quarter we would spend our time testing various garden plans to find what is the best
soil, structure, and plants to use. In the spring and summer we would begin building and planting
our gardens.
Please describe the continuity of this project. In other words, how long will this project function
over the long term? (max 140 words)
Our projects will provide a buffer between storm drains and our stream filtering pollutants out of
the water before they are released into the storm drains. Or project would be planted with edible
plants and native plants that will attract pollinators. The rain garden in Red Square will reduce
standing water in the square and provided better drainage for the grass in the square.
Metrics: Please describe how the success of this project will be measured. (max 140 words)
How much pollutants are reduced in the streams and how much water is retained in the grass in
red square after rain.
