Formal Lab Report Information for Chi Square Analysis Lab
Follow normal lab report format and include all sections. Yes, include a sketch of the lab setup!
Avoid using personal pronouns. It is the data, not my data!
Some information given in class and other details to consider as you produce your report:
Experimental Design:
Hypothesis: The number of each color of M&M differs from package to package.
Null hypothesis: Any difference between the observed and expected data is due to chance.
IV: Package/sample size
DV: % of each color M&M in bag
Control: Information from Mars Company
Constant: package size, type of M&M
Data Tables:
You will have 2 data tables. One is your group’s data and the other is the class data. These must be set up
and filled in on the computer. Next to the data table include the degrees of freedom and the x 2 value
determined. (see lab paper for these data tables to copy)
Analysis:
See your lab packet. There are 4 questions to be copied and answered.
Graph- Make 2 bar graphs. One for your group data and one for the class data. Be sure to include captions
that state the a conclusion that can easily be seen by looking at the graph.
Conclusion:
Be sure to include your chi square value and whether the null hypothesis should be accepted or rejected for
the group data and the class data.
BE SURE TO DO THE PRACTICE PROBLEMS! YOUR NEXT DAILY QUIZ WILL BE ONE OF THEM!
