Thank you for all you do to continue to support your child and our school. Below is some
information about what we are doing in our class this week! Please try to reinforce this at home
to help ensure success for your child.


Wednesday 10/28 is our Fun Run! Please have your student wear comfortable shoes. If
it rains, it will be held in the gym. All students will get to run. You still have time to get
pledges! Please let me know if you have any questions. Our class has earned several
rewards for meeting goals. We just earned crazy socks day! Since I didn’t get to tell the
kids yet, it will be on Wed. We can wear crazy socks AND have our fun run the same
day!
Friday 10/30 is our Harvest day—students can wear costumes
- Dance in the gym 8:15
- Parade at 9:30
- Harvest party in our room at 11:30
- Last day of the quarter
Monday and Tuesday of next week are student holidays!
Reading: This week in reading, we will continue learning how to think and talk about the stories
we read. We will be reviewing how to retell a story including the beginning, middle, and end,
the characters, the setting, and use sequence words. We will start learning about how to make
good predictions when reading.
Writing: We will continue writing about Small Moments in our personal lives. Students will
learn how to plan a story and continue to write stories with a strong beginning, middle, and
end.
Math: We will finish up our work on number sense and counting/ordering numbers to 100. We
will be practicing writing, recognizing, and counting numbers. We will also count by 2s, 5s, and
10s. We will do some fun holiday math mixed the end of the week and enjoy pumpkin math at
our harvest party on Friday! We will review our number sense unit and complete our
assessment this week!
Content: In Science, we will learn about what animals do in the autumn. We will learn about
migrating, preparing to hibernate and staying active. We will review our autumn unit and
complete our assessment this week.
Questions to ask your child:
--Which number is bigger? 24 or 42?
--What is a prediction? How can it help you read?
--Why does it start to get cold in the autumn (fall)?
Reminders:
* Important: the word study words (green, yellow, or white list of words) that come home at
the beginning of each week are to be used for Thursday night’s homework.
* Please make sure your child brings his or her take home reading back to school each day.
Please keep it in the bag with their reading strategies and their recording sheet. They should be
bringing home just right books Monday through Thursday night. On Friday, they can choose
what they would like to read from our classroom library!
As always, if you have any questions please feel free to e-mail me or call the school at 571-2522120. Thank you again for all you do!
