Today, explain the importance of the Mayflower
Compact; read, discuss, and explain the founding of
the Massachusetts Bay Colony, Rhode Island, and
Connecticut. I will also be able to compare Puritans
and Pilgrims

Why did the Pilgrims come to America?


To set up a community where they could practice
their religion freely. They wanted to be separate
from the Church of England and took the concept of
separate church and state literally (this wasn’t well
received in England)
How did their goals differ from those that
founded Jamestown?


Jamestown founded for wealth (joint-stock
company)
Plymouth founded for religious freedom.


Brings order to a chaotic situation.


It’s a governing agreement forged between the
members of the new community. The formation of
a “Civil Body Politic.”
They agree to meet regularly to discuss problems
and create a solution; as well as, follow the
decisions made.
