White Powders Lab
Purpose:
The purpose of this lab is to identify the unknown white powders using chemical & physical
properties.

 6 unknown powders
 Testing plate
 Vinegar

Procedure:

Dependent Variable:
1. Place a sample of powder #1 in 4 slots on the testing plate.
2. Write down a description of the powder noting texture, smell, taste, grains, color, etc.
3. Place a few drops of water in the second slot with the powder. Write down what happened
to the powder.
4. Place a few drops of vinegar in the third slot with the powder. Write down what happened to
the powder.
5. Place a few drops of iodine in the forth slot with the powder. Write down what happened to
the powder.
6. Identify the name of the powder based on the testing results.
7. Repeat steps 2-6 for each powder remaining.
8. Clean up
