Community Concerns/ Issue Exploration;
- Student Enrollment Data:
o Concerned for not being recognized for Queer or Disability students in EOP as a
category for student enrollment statistics
o But there is no way to identify /reliable way to do it
o Need to come up with some ideas to gather information (since information come with
admission application)
o What’s the purpose?
 People don’t feel like there’s a good sense how many students of LGBTQ and
disability on enrollment
 We don’t know the multiple identities without any data
 Accuracy? Better identify where services are needed, not enough information
without this category
- Students of Color to UW:
o “Inferiorize” students if they think that they got in because they’re students of color
o Admission do not take count of race since ‘96
o There are a lot of factors why students are admitted every year
o Doing something in SAB – how we select students
 figure how to give it out to the public
o We’re still in that mentality
o OMA/D is allowed to recruit to apply to the UW
 Once they apply, they’re on their own
- Budget Cuts
o We should use this space to create to send a message to Olympia
 Ex: La Raza’s Day of Action
o Why aren’t students creating a movement or a tangible change?
o We need to be actively involved to fight against the issue
 We need to gather with all of the different groups from ECC – it will be more
powerful
o Tri-Campus Meeting
o
o
o
o
o
o
o
 People of Color go out to Olympia to show that we want change!
How are we going to get the club engaged?
 UW is united as one!
Nov. 29th – Red Square
We need to talk to people who aren’t involved
 Just need to get them to care but that’s already hard
It’s all about the numbers! Too little voice – not powerful enough
 Facebook? Paper Invites on campus?
Need to include diversity in everything we do
Students have the strongest power – we pay to go to UW but we don’t exert that
power everyday,
We should take ACTION! It’s about time.
Disability Resource List
o Corrections are being made in regards on Disability Resources
 Online access guide, etc
o It takes about 5 months to get the building accesses list updated.
o Currently making changes on the mobility maps.
Vice President’s Corner: Updates?
- ECC Director Search
o Still gathering input from students
 Had a long conversation with the potential candidate earlier
o Hopefully by wed/next week on the response
o But we’re moving forward with Marisa
 if that fails, go back to the drawing board
