1. Analyze both Sequence 5-A and Sequence 5-B by answering the following
questions. Feel free to use Rs and Bs in your sketches instead of drawing tile
shapes.
a. What is v5-A(n) and v5-B(n) for n = 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5?
b. Sketch the 20th figure for 5-A and the 20th figure for 5-B. Include v5-A(20)
and v5-B(20). Explain your thinking. If the nth figure is different when n is
odd and when n is even, also include a clear sketch of the 21st figure and
v5-A(21) and/or v5-B(21)
c. Sketch the nth figure for 5-A and the nth figure for 5-B. Explain your
thinking. If the nth figure is different when n is odd and when n is even,
include two clear sketches: one for n even and one for n odd.
d. Show clear formulas for v5-A(n) and for v5-B(n). Explain your thinking. This
work should clearly be supported by your visual work in part c.
Note: To display a formula that is different for different ns, you can define the
function piecewise as in the following examples of number sequences.
