FAQs

What support is available for us as presenters? When will these support sessions take place?
Skills sessions will be available in week 7 for presenters including poster design workshops and presentation skills. You will also receive the support of a postgraduate facilitator who will be available in
week 7 and week 8 to meet with you to discuss best practice in redacting your research for presentation/poster and also to observe your presentation and provide you with feedback. Prospective
presenters will receive a Google calendar invitation to these sessions. Please contact us at src@sheffield.ac.uk to let us know that you are interested in presenting at the conference.

What is the schedule for the day?
1.00pm – Lunch
1.30pm – Keynote speaker
2.15pm – Parallel session 1
2.45pm – Coffee break
3.00pm – Parallel session 2
3.45pm - Closing and prize-giving

Will this event feature on my HEAR?
We are currently confirming with the HEAR team whether this is possible for both attendees and presenters.

How do I sign up?
Please complete the sign up form. Information on the various session choices is available in the conference programme which can be downloaded from this webpage.

What does the student presentation session involve?
Students will either present their research in the form of a poster or as a 5 minute presentation with Q&A. Students with posters will be allocated to a room and conference attendees will look at your
work and ask questions. Students with presentations will be grouped with 3 or 4 fellow presenters and allocated to a room where they will take it in turns to present their research allowing time for
fellow presenters and/or conference attendees to ask any questions.

What is the dress code?
There is no dress code for this event, please wear clothes in which you would feel comfortable and confident to present your research.

Is the conference open to students outside of the faculty?
The conference is available only to students of the Faculty of Social Sciences.

How will students be grouped to present?
Once we have received details of each student’s proposal the organising committee will group these either by department or by research subject/methodology.

Will I get to know the research interests of the other presenters?
Details of each student’s proposal will be included in the final version of the conference programme which will be available for download from this webpage in due course.
