Senior Economist
Wrote reports about international economics, competitiveness, industry, and macroeconomic
issues. Depending on length, reports were either sent to newspapers, published on the internet,
used by the bank, or made available as booklets.
Developed an export forecasting model based on time series analysis of 127 series reported by the
central bank, and incorporating macroeconomic data, import data, and other structural factors
which influence levels of exports. Circulated quarterly export forecasts.
Wrote a regular brief commentary “Strategic Notes” on macroeconomics, exports, and industry
which I circulated on my own via the internet.

Life on the Sidewalk, Economics of those who work on the sidewalks in Bangkok, mostly
informal sector, but some in the formal sector. Work in progress. Hope that it will be a book.
Forecasting Migration Flows: the Relationship between Economic Development,
Demographic Change, and Migration in the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) ADB 2009 A project for the Asian Development Bank, administered by the International
Organization for Migration (IOM). Participated as team leader. Project used existing labour and
demographic data for the GMS, a gravity model, and consensus forecasting to study the relationships
between these three variables, and to forecast future GMS migration flows.
Politics, Economics, and the Price of Oil - 2006 Conference Paper, explains the economics
behind the variation and seemingly irrational price structure of oil, and explains why it is important
for oil prices to remain high irrespective of short term supply and demand forces.
International Indicators of Public-Private Partnership Readiness - UN ESCAP 2004
An internet tool currently available on the UNESCAP website designed to allow countries and
institutions to self-assess their readiness to participate in private-public partnerships. Participated as a
co-leader on the team to design the survey.
The Long Trip Down the Mountain: Social and Economic Effects of Illegal Drugs
in Thailand - UNODC A book, published by United Nations Organization for Drugs and Crime
in November 2003. Participated as sole author. Reviews illegal drug situation in Thailand,
especially the methamphetamine epidemic and argues for steps to be taken to reduce the harm caused
by illegal drug use especially due to excessive incarceration of causal drug users.
Strategic and Competitive Position of the Thai Jewelry Industry
Thai Farmers Research Center - Two separate papers analyzing the current position, opportunities
and threats to the Thai jewelry industry. One paper mostly consists of jewelry trade statistics from
around the world and commentary about important markets. May 2002

Thai Farmers Research Center - Comprehensive economic report structured around cost factors
including labor, transportation costs, foreign exchange, and tariffs. 70 pp. - September 2000
Global Study on Illegal Drugs: The Case of Bangkok
United Nations Drug Control Programme (now UNODC), 2000 - Part of a three person research
team (also Nualnoi Treerat, Noppanun Wannathepsakul) investigating the use of illegal drugs in
Bangkok. This project was sponsored by the UNDCP as part of a global study on the urban use and
abuse of illegal drugs.

the competitive position of Thailand’s Jewelry Industry.
Sent to 200-plus Thai jewelry firms and analysts. - I volunteered and provided this service for free.
Thai Quarterly Export Forecasts Q4:2001 - Q4:2002 Used trade data and input-output analysis to
forecast three to six month demand for about 150 separate Thai export categories.
Sent to macroeconomic analysts in Thailand - I volunteered and provided this service for free.
