Communications Assistant
Purpose
Purpose:
Provides a broad range of communications support for the School of Social Work
Research and Community Outreach Office including writing and editing, project
planning, and/or education/promotion activities. Responsible for researching and
generating ideas to develop high quality, creative materials.
Essential Functions
Function 1:
Responsible for producing internal and external communication literature to
promote and inform on the research productivity of the school.
20 % Time
Function 2:
Develop website content, including stories, articles, designs, videos as well as social
media content.
15 % Time
Function 3:
Coordinates and archives faculty award nomination materials including supporting
documents.
5 % Time
Function 4:
Develop and execute an integrated communications plan for the SSW and serve as
the media contact including the dissemination of SSW accomplishments regarding
SSW's performance against peers and aspirants.
15 % Time
Function 5:
Develop marketing/communication campaigns for SSW research projects, initiatives
and centers including assisting faculty with identifying and connecting with media
outlets.
15 % Time
Function 6:
Assist with all aspects of report generation including the use of data, text, and
graphics to convey and archive SSW productivity.
15 % Time
Function 7:
Design and maintain (in coordination with others) all communication materials such
as the SSW website, the college e-newsletter, annual reports, student handbooks,
recruitment materials and other targeted projects.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications or related field. Two years
of experience in public relations, communications, writing/editing or related field.

Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to work collaboratively. Familiarity with and use of web-based content
management systems and major social media sites (Twitter and Facebook).
Experience using desktop publishing or graphics software. Proficient in Microsoft
Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Use of personal computer and standard office
equipment. Experience in a higher education environment. Experience with data
reporting.
