Monthly Progress Report

We have done gone through a costing exercise to establish a baseline for MIT
activities in the pre-launch phase of the program. This divides up into two parts,
Instrument Development and Mission Management. The estimates are consistent with
our previous ROM pricing: in FY2002 dollars we are seeing costs of $11M for the
instrument and $3.5M for management. We need to identify those parts of the puzzle
we’ve forgotten about and factor in project reserves in a consistent fashion, but the good
news is that there were no surprises here.
The science team has started to feed us first inputs for the Mission Definition
Document; the real editing lies ahead.
