Introduction
• One of these issues relates to the intrinsic spontaneous and piezoelectric
polarization effects that induce electric fields and result in degradation of
LED performance. In order to overcome the polarization effects and
increase the internal quantum efficiency, non-polar and semi-polar GaN
growth have been proposed
• However, thus far they have shown lower output power compared to that of
c-plane GaN-based LEDs due to lower crystal quality, though non-polar or
semi-polar GaN-based LEDs have demonstrated many advantages over
polar GaN-based LEDs.
