Listening/Speaking 5: Test #4, Ch. 7 & 8
Name: ______________________________
ANSWER KEY!
Short Answer: Answer the following questions in 3-4 complete sentences (5 points each)
1. How do lecturers make their lectures easy to follow for taking notes? Name and describe at least 2 methods.
Students should be synthesizing the meaning of the lecturer goals in question Ch: 7, question #1 on the
study guide and question #1, Ch.8 on study guide. So, something here about how exemplifying a topic and
classifying subtopics helps break down the information so students can more easily record information in
their notes. Some of my students were unable to answer the question to this standard, but as long as they
wrote full sentences and made an attempt at answer the question, I give them no fewer than 3 points.
2. As a student, you have completed many classes in many subjects. What subjects do you think would be best
presented by two of the lecture organizational plans from Chapter 8 and why?
As long as they mention at least 2 different lecture organizational plans FROM CHAPTER 8, in complete
sentences, I give full points.
Use your notes from the lecture, “Drink Your Green Tea!,” to answer the following questions
(2 points each)
True/False
3. __F___ All tea leaves come from tropical environments.
4. __F___ Mixing green tea and black tea together makes Oolong tea
5. __T___ Green tea is the least processed of the three teas
6. __T___ Green tea may help prevent cavities in your teeth
7. __F___ Black tea causes cancer, while green tea cures cancer
8. ___F__ Camillia Sinensis, a biologist from Norway, discovered tea in 1829
9. __T___ Green tea represents 20% of the world production of tea.
10. __F___ One cup of green tea contains more vitamin C than one cup of orange juice
Answer the following short and extended response questions in complete sentences (5 points each)
Use 5 of the following vocabulary words throughout your responses. You may change the part of speech to fit
your response:
wither
life expectancy
isolate
preservative
inhibit
malnutrition
toxicity
processed food
11. Think about the foods in your cupboards at home. Describe your diet and one thing you could do to make it
healthier.
Again, as long as they answered in complete sentences and used one or two words from the word list
correctly, I give full points.
12. What evidence does the lecture provide that proves Green Tea’s health benefits? Does this evidence
convince you and make you want to drink more green tea?
They should have something about preventing certain types of cancer, that green tea is non-toxic, has
vitamin C, low level of caffeine, may prevent cavities…I’d be impressed if they mentioned polyphenols
here. AND they need to use a word or two from the word list above.
13. Why are scientists so interested in Green Tea? What do they want to do with “polyphenols”?
Something here about how polyphenols may help prevent diseases, that it’s a “disease fighting element”
would be an impressive answer. AND they need to use a word or two from the word list above.
14. Black tea is the most commonly produced tea. What are the steps to process and produce Black Tea?
Compose a response in complete sentences! (9 points)
This answer should be at least 6 quality sentences for full points. However, as long as they get at least 3 of
the steps in the process I would give them a passing amount of points (like, 7 points). It’s up to you 
AND they need to use a word or two from the word list above.
