The selection of the Dan Evans Teaching Excellence Award will be based on the following criteria:
1. Recommendation Letter (25 points)
Obtain one letter from a student that addresses your demonstrated commitment to academic
excellence and learning.
2. Recommendation Letter (25 points)
Obtain one letter from a colleague familiar with your professional work that addresses your
demonstrated commitment to academic excellence and learning (20 points each).
3. Personal Narrative (50 points)
Prepare a personal narrative that provides examples of the following behaviors:
Collaboration – Effectively works with others in a way that respects differences, recognizes multiple
viewpoints, and encourages problem-solving
Leadership – Takes initiative on behalf of a group to create or change processes, plans, or behaviors
Commitment to improvement – Participates in activities geared toward improvement, actively seeks
feedback from others, and implements changes that improve learning
Limit the narrative to a total of two word-processed, single-spaced pages in 12-point font. Please avoid
technical jargon. Address your work with and on behalf of students, faculty, the Seattle Community
Colleges and your professional activities.
