Odyssey of the Mind is an exciting and challenging child-centered problem-solving
competition. Each year the national organization of Odyssey of the Mind issues five
open-ended problems that require students to work together to create an 8 minute
presentation to solve them. In March of each year, teams from all over Riverside, San
Diego, & Orange County meet in Palm Springs to present their solutions and compete to
represent our Inland Empire Region in state and international tournaments.
Since the year 1989, many teams from our district have taken first or second place in the
regional tournament and moved on to the state level of competition. In Spring 2011, our
own Cole Canyon Full Circle Team came in first at State and made it all the way to
World Finals at the University of Maryland!
Our goal is to have fun, build friendships, and create awesome solutions to this year’s
challenging problems!
Please indicate your interest in a long term problem by picking your first, second, and
third choice (1, 2, 3).

I, _________________________________________ wish to participate on an Odyssey of the
Mind team for the current school year. By signing up for an OM team, I fully understand and
agree to the following:
1) I will make every effort to attend all scheduled meetings. If I am unable to attend, I will
let my coach know as soon as possible.
2) I will commit to contributing my time and efforts, as required by the team, to fulfill my
share of the responsibility for developing our solution.
3) I understand what “Outside Assistance” is, and that penalties may be involved. I will not
discuss any aspect of our team’s solution with anyone except my fellow team members.
4) I will promise to be fully available for all dates of competition.
5) I will be fully supportive and encouraging to my teammates at all times. I will remember
that in OM there is not a single right way to do something, and I will listen with an open
mind to all suggestions.
6) I pledge that I will work hard on our solution, but also remember that HAVING FUN IS
OUR GOAL!
