WELCOME TO THIRD GRADE!
Dear Parents,
I would like to welcome you and your child to our classroom! I am so excited about this
year and look forward to working with you and your child. We have a fun year ahead of
us! Please take the time to read this third grade handbook. It will cover everything you
will need to know about homework policies, third grade expectations and any other
questions you may have.
Conference Time
Parent conferences will be held at the end of the first six weeks. More information will be
sent home about conferences at a later time. My daily conference time will be from
9:40-10:25. Feel free to contact me during this time if you have any questions or
concerns.
Attendance:
Just a reminder that school begins at 7:50am. It is very important for children to get to
school on time so they do not feel rushed or left behind. Students will be counted tardy
after 7:50am. Children may start to enter the classroom at the 7:40 bell. Early arrivers
must wait in the cafeteria or gym. As you know, eating breakfast is essential to help
children to learn and function well in the classroom. If you would like, your child may
buy breakfast in the cafeteria when they arrive, but they must arrive early enough to be
served by 7:50. If your child is absent, please send a note within 48 hours of your
student’s absence so that we can keep that information on file. If we do not receive a
note within 48 hours of the absence, it is automatically unexcused. Verbal
explanations are not accepted.
Dismissal:
Buses will begin loading at 2:45 in the afternoon. Walkers will begin dismissal at 2:43 in
the afternoon. If your student is a walker you may meet them by the bike racks after
school. Car riders will be dismissed at 2:50 from the back cafeteria doors. You must be in
a car with a car tag to pick up your car rider. We will not allow parents to park their car
and bring their car tag to the door. This is for the protection and safety of ALL children.
If your child is ever going to be going home by a different method of transportation
you must send a note that morning. Please don’t send an email because your child
may have a substitute in the classroom that day and they don’t have email access.
Children without a note or phone message will be sent home the way they are normally to
be dismissed. This is district policy.
Lunch:
If you would like to eat lunch with your child please wait by the bench outside the
cafeteria and then you may join our line when we walk by. Be sure to sign in at the front
office anytime you visit the school. Lunch may be purchased in advance and placed in an
account to make it easier for your child or children. Students may also bring lunch money
daily if need be.
Snacks:
Each morning we will be having a short snack time. I ask that you please send a healthy
snack with your child each day. Please remember how important it is that your student
has food in their tummy in order to be more attentive in the classroom.
Special Areas:
Our class will go to special areas from 9:40-10:25. We will have P.E., Art, and Music
during these times. Your child must wear tennis shoes on our P.E. days.
Library:
Your child will be checking out books from our school library. These books are their
responsibility. If they are lost or torn you will need to pay the fine necessary to replace
that book for the library shelf. They will check out the books on a regular basis and will
be allowed to take them home for reading pleasure.
Birthdays:
Whenever your child has a birthday at school you may send treats with your child to
school that day and we will serve them. I ask that you let me know at least 48 hours in
advance so that I can schedule time to have their treat.
Parties:
Throughout the school year we will have three class parties. These parties will be the
Holiday Party, Valentine’s Party and the End of the Year Party. Notes will be sent home
about these as they get closer.
Medication:
We are not allowed to give medication at school unless you have completed the
medication form. The medication must be taken to the nurse and must be in a clearly
marked prescription bottle for the nurse to administer. Please check with the school nurse
if you have any questions.
Reading Counts
At the end of the six weeks we will have a reading counts party for the students who have
met their goals. Each teacher will set point goals for their students based on individual
needs. If a student does not meet their goal then they will not be able to attend the party.
Sincerely,
The Third Grade Teachers
VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION!
MONDAY FOLDERS
These folders will go home every Monday. In these folders you will find your
child’s graded work. Please empty these folders and return them to school on
Tuesday. We will use these same folders throughout the year. Please go over
these pages with your child.
AGENDAS
Agendas are to go home each day and be returned the following day.
Inside your child’s agenda you will find their conduct marked as well as our
learning objectives for the day. This is used to show what kind of day your
child had at school that day. If nothing is marked they had a green day. If
they had a color change, that will be marked as well as a short explanation as
to why. Please discuss this with your child so they know what their
expectations at school are. If a student has more than 3 color changes in a
six weeks he/she will not be able to attend the GATORIFFIC party.
Agendas should be signed every night and returned the next day. If
your child does not bring it to school or it is not signed they will sit out
of recess for 10 min.
NEWSLETTERS
All newsletters will be delivered electronically this year. Please make sure
you check your email and update me with any changes to your email so I can
keep you informed about what is going on at school. This is also my primary
form of communication so it is very important that you keep me up to date
with your most current information.
HOMEWORK
All homework will be sent home on Monday and should be turned in on Friday.
If you child does not bring their homework they will sit out of recess. If
this happens more than once in six weeks they will not be able to attend the
GATORIFFIC Party.

Social Studies. Mrs. Tandberg will be teaching Math and Science.
