statement to make it true)

B. Cornish
C. Plymouth Rock
D. Leghorns
Short answer
5. Why should lights be kept on 24 hours for the broilers? (2pts)
Promote eating, makes chicks feel safe, or the lights maybe the only source of heat
6. All of the chickens are round the edge of the pen avoiding where the heat lamps are.
What could this be a sign of? (2pts)
The heat lamps are too hot and the chicks are trying to avoid them.
7. Name two ways of lowering the chance of disease spread. (4pts)
Keep area clean of manure and dry, remove dead birds, clean contaminated feed and
waters, before chickens arrive disinfect pen and equipment.
8. Compare and contrast the growth of the chickens in the two different scenarios.
Scenario 1
A group of 100 chicks is started out in a pen that contains woodchips as litter which is not
changed regularly, no chick guard, and the temperature has been around 80° F. These
chicks are also given an unlimited supply of feed and water.
Scenario 2
A group of 100 chicks is started out in a pen that contains newspaper which is changed
daily, a chick guard, and the temperature is kept around 95° F. These chicks are also
given an unlimited supply of feed and water.
For this question I would be looking for students to give key phrases like Scenario 1
chicks temperature is too low, there is a heightened risk for disease spread because their
litter is not changed regularly and that these would lead to a decrease in growth even
though the chicks are given an unlimited supply of feed and water.
Scenario 2 chicks would grow better and faster because the temperature and clean
environment promotes eating and growth. There is also a decrease risk of disease spread
because the pen is kept clean.
