Curriculum
Rules/Grading
Dear Parents/Guardians,
There are three main rules in P.E.:
1. Listen and follow directions.
2. Respect others and take care of the
equipment.
3. Hustle and try your best.
My name is DeJuan Sanders and I am the
Physical Education teacher here at Taft
Elementary. This is my eleventh year
teaching and my fifth year here at Taft. I
am very excited to get to know your kids
and teach them the importance of being
healthy and living an active lifestyle.
A typical physical education lesson is
divided into four parts: Introduction,
Fitness, Lesson, and Closure. The
introduction and fitness activities provide
students with activity
immediately upon
entering the gym.
Students use this time
to warm their bodies
up for an activity as
well as learn about
different muscles in the
body. The lesson focus introduces students
to a wide variety of sports and activities.
These include, but are not limited to:
rhythmic movements, gymnastics, climbing
ropes, tennis, golf, etc. The closure activity
usually consists of a game where students
can apply the skills and knowledge learned
throughout the lesson.
What to wear
Students are encouraged to wear
comfortable clothing and tennis shoes on
days that they have P.E. Shorts must be
worn under dresses/skirts. If flip flops,
sandals, or high heels are worn, they will
not be allowed to participate in P.E. for that
day.
Students in Kindergarten - 6th grade are
given two grades in physical education:
participation and behavior. Grades are
based on the following criteria:
4 = Demonstrates "Commendable"
participation / behavior due to a superior
level of involvement and responsibility for
learning.
3= Demonstrates "Consistent" participation
/ behavior due to a steady, reliable level of
involvement and responsibility for learning.
2= Is "Not Consistent" in participation /
behavior due to varying levels of
involvement and responsibility for learning.
1 = Demonstrates a "Need for
Improvement" in participation / behavior
due to a lack of involvement and
responsibility for learning.
I am looking forward to a fun and exciting
year in physical education with your child!
Please feel free to come in at any time to
watch your child participate in physical
education (just remember to check-in at the
front office). If you have any
questions/concerns, please don’t hesitate
to contact me!
