used by investors to interpret current or future investment
possibilities and judge the overall health of an economy.
Economic indicators can potentially be anything the investor
chooses, but specific pieces of data released by government and
non-profit organizations have become widely followed
Explanation of Cartoon:
Economic indicators are used, as the definition says, “to
judge the overall health of an economy”. The cartoon applies
the term by showing that the current measure of the health of
the economy could be the number of college grads going to work
in low-skill jobs. It is funny because the reader assumes that
the one with the college degree would be doing better, but she is
there for a job interview at a fast food restaurant.
