2007 Food Share Canathon FAQ’s
What is Food Share Canathon?
A McLean County food drive for local pantries that help organize the event.
This year, the Food Share Canathon kicks off with a community collection day on
Sunday March 18, and food collection sites at participating Kroger stores continuing to
take donations through March 30th. To make it easy on people to participate a bag will be
inserted in to the Pantagraph on Friday March 16th. This bag can be left outside the
home’s front door for the community collection day on Sunday March 18th.
Who does it benefit? Center for Hope, City of Refuge, Clare House, Eastview Christ
Church, Ministry & More, Mount Pisgah, Salvation Army, St Vincent DePaul, Vale
Community Church and Western Avenue Center.
When is it?

When will the bag be in the Pantagraph?
Friday March 16th
What zones will have the bag?
Zones 1-8
When do people leave the bag/food outside my home?
By 12:00 on March 18th
When will volunteers be by to pick it up?
Between 1-4 PM on March 18th.
Where can people drop off food? At area Kroger stores in large bins labeled Canathon.
On College, Main and Oakland Ave.
Where can people buy prepackaged food to go to Canathon?
At the Kroger stores on College, Main and Oakland Ave. They will have $3, $5, $10
bags of non-perishable foods for sale.
How can people help?
There are 3 ways to help:

Recruit volunteer groups to help us on Community Collection Day March
18th. Groups of two or more people and one vehicle are needed to canvas local
neighborhoods from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. picking up food donations left on
doorsteps throughout the community and bringing then back to the storage site.
Groups are also needed to help sort the incoming donations on this collection day
at the storage site.

Hold a food drive with your neighbors, church, school, business, or other
community group between March 18-30. We’ll gladly provide you with
information about Canathon drop off sites and supply bags to collect the
donations.

Give a monetary donation. Your monetary donation will help offset any
incurred expenses during the Food Share Canathon. Please make any monetary
donations to McLean County Canathon and send it to the Bloomington-Normal
Jaycees Post office Box 42 Bloomington, Illinois 61702-0042.
What can be donated?
Non-perishable foods and toiletry items. You can also make a monetary donation to help
offset any incurred expenses during the Food Share Canathon.

Who else is helping organize Canathon?
The Bloomington-Normal Jaycees with the help of University of Illinois ExtensionMcLean County, other groups and several sponsors, have joined together to organize a
community-wide food drive.
Where is it located?
Each year it is located at a different site.
This year it is at 310 Wylie Drive at the Crossroads Center in Normal.
Why does the community need an even like this one?
Our local pantries provide, on average 3,600 meals to our needy McLean County
neighbors each week. Imagine how much food they must need to keep up with the
demand every week of the year. Canathon is one of the food drive done annually to help
them provide to these families.
What is the Canathon goal this year?
We hope to bring in over 35,000 pounds of food for these pantries to share.
