Present: Steve Brown, Angela Echeverri, Par Mohammadian, Mike Reynolds, Carlos Gonzalez (Dean
of Student Success), Llanet Martin (Student Success and Support Program)
1. Possible Certificates: (Carlos)
It was decided to meet with YPI and receive feedback on a certificate for “Life Science Lab
Assistant” degree program. Possible dates were suggested: 3/3/15 or 3/5/15 between 1:30-3:30
pm; Llanet will kindly follow up, confirm the date, and prepare an agenda.
To prepare a Life Science workshop Carlos will contact LACOE to receive feedback from employers
and explore what skills are required/in demand.
Llanet emphasized self-evaluation of future programs to demonstrate success.
2. Status: Env Sci course (Mike)
Par will find out about ENV Sci courses offered at other campuses and if they have a lab section.
Mike will contact VP Allen to receive approval to offer one section of ENV SCI in the fall 2015
semester. The offering can be funded by previously offered additional two sections of accelerated
Anatomy courses. It was discussed that 6 sections of Anatomy (including the accelerated Anatomy
courses) will be sufficient.
3. Timeline: Biology New Faculty Position (Mike)
Mike to work with Dean Hernandez to prepare a timeline with specific dates. Angela also reported
on the CCC job fair that took place last Saturday. She met many qualified candidates and advised
them to fill out the online application form.
4. Update: SLO/PLOs assessment – Spring 2015 (Par)
The meeting will be on 3/13 at 9:00 am for BIO3/Micro faculty and at 10:00 am for the
Anthropology faculty. Par suggested including the A&P faculty with the BIO faculty. She will
prepare the agenda before the meeting. Mike will provide bagels and coffee.
5. Update: Reading Apprenticeship (Par)
Par will fly to Oakland to attend the RA workshop for the team leaders from 2/4-2/6/15. She will
find out more about the start of the online STEM RA course.
6. Update: BioTech – CTE EF 60 % update (Cathy Brinkman); LAUSD/Sylmar BioTech High School
7. BioTech courses (Angela)
Angela, Mike Fenton, and Cathy Brinkman will meet with the BioTech HS administrators/faculty on
Thursday, 2/4/15, to discuss possible collaborations.

7. Update: BIO3 exclusion throughout the semester (Mike)
Done.
8. Update: Biology TMC (Steve)
Steve has already contacted Said Pazirandeh. At this point, the CCCCO website has not been
updated and does not include the BIOLOGY TMC program. Steve has already prepared the required
forms. His plan is to complete all tasks by the spring break.
9. Update: Unresolved issues: Floors in the Bio 3 lab and Hallways (Par)
Par reported that the contractors are working in HFAC and the plan is to have them work on the
floors once the plumbing is completed in HFAC. Since the spring semester will start next Monday it
was decided that Mike contacts VP Allen and VP Villanueva to find out about the details.
