9/01/2006, Class 2: Free Fall Model
NAME: ________________________________________
1. Build Spreadsheet Model 2.1. The directions begin on page 16, section 2 and go through
section 5 on page 19. The model of the spreadsheet is on page 23.
2. Do the exercise described in section 6 on pages 19 and 20. Write your answers to parts c and
d in the spaces provided below. For both, use y0 = 0.
c) For v0 = 30 m/s, ymax = _______________________
units
d) For v0 = 25 m/s, ymax = _______________________
units
3. Build Spreadsheet Model 2.2, as described in section 7 on pages 20 and 21. The model is
shown on page 24. Add an extra column that gives the value of the velocity calculated from
the velocity formula, v = v0 + at. Examine the differences between this column and the
“average velocity” column. You need not write out any of the explanations requested in the
book, but be prepared to discuss them in class.
4. Use Model 2.2 to do problem 2 on page 21. Do parts a, b, and c, and write down the answers
in the spaces provided below. For parts b and c, set y0 = 0.
a)
On Earth, t =_______________________
units
On the Moon, t = _______________________
units
b)
On Earth, ymax = _______________________
units
On the Moon, ymax = _______________________
units
c)
On Earth, v0 = _______________________
units
On the Moon, v0 = _______________________
