General Announcements

o Dr. Intes will stop by at our next meeting.
 Dr. Vesna Damljanovic will be visiting our department on Thursday and Friday of this week as a
potential faculty candidate
o Seminar is Thursday at 3:30 in 3606 of the Union
o Students going to lunch with her on Friday at noon (Eno, Katerina, Laryssa & Mary Beth)
o She is currently at BU working on research focused on cell tractions and mechanics of
the cytoskeleton in the context of cell migration

o Will be adding faculty birthdays to list (if you know any send them to Angela)
 Jenn and Seth are having a baby girl
 Ellaine – no baby yet
Departmental Requests/Achievements
 Dr. Brunski was honored by being named the First William R. Laney visiting Professor at the
Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN in the beginning of September
 Thanks to those who helped with the Fall Open House Day tours/information sessions – Colleen
Brian, Stephanie, Kyle Dow (undergrad), Mary Beth. There was again a lot of positive feedback
from the students & parents who attended (over 100 people visited our department)!
 Congrats to Laryssa, Jenn Zuba, and Angela on their poster presentations at BMES. Congrats to
Simon and Ani on their podium presentations.

Service
 Race for the Cure
o Thanks to our 14 participants for raising $600 in entry fees and donations
 Poll of service ideas for the Christmas season
o Ideas include: food/can drive, wrapping presents, singing Christmas carols, adopt-afamily
o Group decided on food/can drive
Social
 Karen reported on the trip to the Scaregrounds; fun was had by all.
 Fall Invitational Bowling Tournament will be held on November 13th. We will not be reserving a
large block of lanes as we have done in the past, but rather are participating in the dollar Monday
deal which means that everyone pays $1 per game and $1 for shoe rentals. Everyone is
responsible for paying their own way.
o Look for an email in the upcoming weeks.
 Holiday Party
o The date is set as December 8th (the Friday of the last day of classes)
o Party will be held in the Ansell Lounge on the 3rd floor of the JEC
o Due to our limited budget, we will be asking people to make certain dishes to bring
 Brian Bradke will talk with his cousin about possibly catering
 We will finalize a menu & send out an email to decide on who can bring which
dish, and also if we have any room in the budget to cater main dishes.
Ongoing Projects
 Backdrop projected tabled for the moment due to lack of volunteers/budget.
 Received six entries for the logo/t-shirt contest. Thanks to everyone who participated.
o The group voted on the submissions and decided on winners for a logo, t-shirt & for
mugs, etc (see next page).
o Angela will announce winners at the BMES meeting next week.
o We will work with the winners to computerize images and make any modifications.
