Chemistry Extra Credit Project —Commercial Labels

This project is DUE ON:______________________

Objective:

You will analyze the ingredients from commercial product labels. You job is to find 3 compounds from

10 different commercial product labels & write their formulas.

You will create a 10 page booklet displaying your labels.

Directions/Rules:

1.

There can only be ONE LABEL PER PAGE-include the INGREDIENTS.

2.

The 3 compounds from EACH label MUST be written neatly or typed

UNDERNEATH the label.

3.

You MUST have a total of 30 different compounds and formulas when you finish.

4.

You MAY NOT use WATER or TABLE SALT (NaCl) as your compounds.

5.

Do not repeat a compound from one label to another.

6.

You MUST have a decorated cover page that includes a title, your name, and class period.

7.

You MUST cite your resources of materials and information

COMPOUND MORE THAN ONCE!

Be Creative- It’s Thanksgiving, a holiday that typically involves a lot of cooking. Please only remove labels of foods and containers that were already trash-bound! I’d hate for your mom to be looking for salt and use sugar instead! Also please dry or wipe off labels if needed before placing them on your papers.

Grading Rubric:

10 labels – 2 points each

30 correctly named compounds & formulas

(3 per label)- 2 points each
