Vocabulary
target: a person who is the object of an
intentional action.
offender: a person who has malicious intent to
hurt or damage someone.
escalate: to increase or make more intense
de-escalate: to decrease or make less intense
bystander: a person who does nothing when
they witness something happening
upstander: a person who supports and stands
up for someone else
Consider the following:
Have you or a friend ever experienced a
situation similar to Stacey’s? How might the
strategies in the chart have helped you in that
situation?
What prevents a bystander from taking action?
What advice would you give to someone to
convince them to be upstanding?
Scenario
In groups of 2 or 3, create a 2 minute skit that
shows an upstander in a cyber bullying situation.
Create lines and parts for each actor. You will
present your skit to the class. You will turn in
your script. Each member of the group must play
an active role in the skit (specify names with
specific characters).
