The UAPB committee is meeting January 23 and will be working on setting up definite
events and will give a report in February.
b. Legislative Update & Announcements – No current news to report.
IV.
Administrative Updates
a. Unit Update – Chris Craig, Head of the PEU
On the compendium discussion most people received the results in a DESE webinar. It
stated there were 640 independent requests and concerns about the rule change. They
will keep the grade levels constant with what they currently are. The competencies can
be considered with building a program and may not lean on the addition of x number of
hours. The perspective on the 12 week student teaching block that is embedded in
MoSPE has not changed. It was also mentioned that Ruby Payne will be in Springfield
on February 11th at the White River Conference Center, and February 12th at Juanita K.
Hammons Hall from 8 to 11:30 am.
b. Accreditation update – Dr. Hough and his team submitted a well written rejoinder.
The report was a good documentation of all that we had done, and our recruitment
efforts are continuing on.
c. Diversity Scholarship update – One application for an advanced diversity scholarship
for this semester. They will be interviewing that student next Wednesday. The

deadline for the Diversity Scholarship for transfer students is March 1 and April 15 for
advanced candidates.
COE update – David Hough, Dean of COE
The letter we receive in April from CAEP will say we are fully accredited and did a
great job, but we will have one area to improve on; our candidates need to interact with
other diverse candidates. It will also say when CAEP will be back again. From this
point forward all of our diversity, multicultural efforts needs to be imbedded in all the
standards. On Friday, the COE faculty are meeting and taking the 8 goals the BOG
have developed and taking stock of what we are doing in the college to meet those goals
and what we need to eliminate what we need to expand and what we need to take on.
Dr. Hough will share the results of the meeting at the next PEC meeting. State Board
of Education met Monday and Tuesday and they formed a new Dean’s group, the
Missouri Council of Deans and they meet monthly. They will have a presence at the
Missouri State Board of Education meetings.
Assessment update – Dr. James Sottile
There have been 59 students as of last week to complete the MoGEA. Once we have
more data we will have something to present to the PEU.
Clinical Log – A reminder to faculty that if their students have any diverse experiences
they need to record them in their Clinical Log. Any rich diverse experiences outside of
school may also be included. Contact Dr. Sottile or Scott Fiedler if they need any help
with the clinical log. A flyer was passed out with information on the 5th Annual
Springfield African American Read-In (Theme: Civil Rights and America).
Secondary Education Update – Rebecca Woodard, Director
If anyone did not receive the email about the webinar regarding the MEGA assessment
that was sent out on Monday, let Dr. Woodard know and she will get it to you. Summer
of 2015 DESE will set the cut scores.
