Scholarship Essay
In the space below, please type a thoughtful 2-3 page double-spaced essay that describes all of the
following:
a) Your specific campus and/or community involvement while a college student in activities that
support multiculturalism, diversity, inclusivity, or social justice (e.g., community volunteer work
with diverse groups, leader of relevant student organization, significant involvement in activities
related to diversity on campus or in the community). Note that although attendance at culturallyfocused campus programs is certainly valued, the committee will be looking for applicants who
have done more than attend events.
b) What you have learned or gained from the involvement discussed in “part a),” and how that
influences your life today and may influence it in the future.
c) Your opinion on what role diversity-related courses (e.g., World Culture & Ethnic Studies classes)
and/or campus programs (e.g., culturally-focused special events, presentations, organizations, or
centers) play in the educational experience of college students in general.
Optional: The scholarship committee may also consider financial need in selection. If you wish to include
brief information about your specific need for financial support, feel free to place that at the end of the 2-3
