Classroom Teachers – Kindergarten
Monday - Session 1 – Jump into Health (Part 1)
(pgs.7-16)
TEKS: L.A. K.1 & K.10; Social Studies K.6; Health K.1 & K.8; P.E. K.3
Learning Objectives:
Students will be introduced to Hearty Heart and Dynamite Diet
Students will model healthful eating and physical activity behaviors
Resources: Snack Time at Hearty Heart’s Story p8-10, Coloring Sheets p11-16, CATCH Home
Letter 1 p55
Lesson Design: Reading or Center Time
Activity 1: Reading and discussing story events and characters. Can be done as a read aloud.
*Teacher can let students choose which coloring sheet they want (eating vs. physical
activity). What have you done in the last few days to feel and look good?
Tuesday - Session 2 – Jump into Health (Part 2)

TEKS: L.A. K.1, K.5, & K.10; Health K.1; P.E. K.1 & K.6
Learning Objectives:
Students will reinforce concepts of healthful behavior
Students will model healthful eating and physical activity behaviors
Resources: Snack Time at Hearty Heart’s Story p8-10, List of song phrases p18
Lesson Design: Reading or Circle Time
Activity 1: Review story events and characters. Sing a song (“I Want to Be Like Hearty Heart”) to the
tune of “Mary Had a Little Lamb” to reinforce being physically active.
*Suggest making poster of song with picture clues to help develop print awareness.
Wednesday - Session 3 – Get Out There and Move!

TEKS: L.A. K.3 & K.4; Social Studies K.17; P.E. K.1 & K.2
Learning Objectives:
Students will increase awareness of which physical activities increase
heart rate
Resources: List of GO activities p22
Lesson Design: Reading, Circle, or Wellness Time
Activity 1: Discussion of importance of physical activity. What type of GO activity was performed in
the story? Students will pantomime different GO activities. *Suggest having picture cards
of activities for students to reference. Which GO activity will you do to make your heart
stronger?
EXTENSION: Take pictures of students performing GO activities and make a class book
using iPhoto or PhotoStory3.
Thursday - Session 4 – Move and Play Every Day

TEKS: L.A. K.3, K.4, & K.5; Social Studies K.17; P.E. K.1 & K.2; Health K.11
Learning Objectives:
Students will discover the importance of frequent physical activity
Students will promote physical activity through a song
Resources: List of song phrases p27
Lesson Design: Reading or Circle Time
Activity 1: Talk about habits – what is a habit? Sing a song (“Most Everyday We Walk Alot”) to the
tune of “This is the Way We Wash Our Clothes” with a change of GO activity, which
students pantomime, throughout the song. *Suggest making poster of song with picture
clues to help develop print awareness.
EXTENSION: Create other verses and sing at recess time during different activities.

Friday - Session 5 – Let’s Dance

Learning Objectives:
Students will reinforce that being physically active is fun
Resources: Music CD, CD player, Physical activity rhyme p30
Lesson Design: Reading, Circle, or Wellness Time
Activity 1: Teaching physical activity rhyme, which students will pantomime the movements
mentioned in the 1st 6 lines of the rhyme and clap their hands in rhythm to the last 6 lines.
