SPRING GE ILO ASSESSMENT UPDATE
Discussions took place in Faculty Senate in regards to the confidentiality of the faculty
participants in the assessment process. It was agreed that the faculty names would be made
available to the department chairs. The Senate’s reasoning for making the names available
was to aide in the assessment if needed. It was suggested that we should monitor whether
this deters participants from participating. If there is widespread concern, the issue can be
revisited.
A workshop to review/develop the rubrics for Critical Thinking and Oral Communication
will take place tomorrow 11/30/12. Multiple LOC members and other faculty are
participating. The goal is to have working rubrics by the end of the workshop to share with
Faculty Senate on Monday. Wendy and Katy hope to start recruiting participants before
classes start in the Spring to give faculty more lead time to prepare assignments needed for
the assessment process. LOC will be able to see the completed rubrics at the next meeting.
IV.
SPPF FUNDING
The two requests for funding submitted by LOC were granted. Plans for the Information
Literacy module and the continuation of the assessment process are moving forward.

DQP PROPOSAL
Wendy provided a copy of the districts DQP (Degree Qualifications Profile) proposal. The
DQP is an investigative/evaluation grant project conducted by AACJC. The project
requirements are in line with what we are currently doing with our ILOs. The College
should hear back from ACCJC sometime in December if our proposal was accepted. There
will be some training involved if the proposal is accepted.
VI.
SLO PROFICIENCY REPORT
Wendy provided a copy of the rough draft of the SLO Proficiency Report. Wendy and Berta
would like to bring the report to the Governing Board in February, and it is due to ACCJC on
March 15. This report gives the college an opportunity to see what has been accomplished
so far.
Wendy went over and clarified each section and asked for feedback. The draft was bulleted
to highlight the main points that will be written into each narrative. Discussion and
feedback was given throughout each section.
Feedback:
 It was suggested to start encouraging departments to start assessing their programs
on a regular basis at the end of the semester because that is when instructors are
naturally doing assessment of student work. (Statement 1)
 It was suggested to mention that the LOC is part of the college’s governance
structure. (include the senate structure) (Statement 1)
 If program review and planning is mentioned, there should be a link to the PRP
website under evidence. (Statement 1)
 Suggested to include part-time and full-time plenary and PD workshops where SLOs
were discussed. (Statement 2)
 Include IPC at the institutional level due to PRP funding. (Statement 3)
 Add Performing Hearts Website to Institutional section – SPPF money was allotted
to support integrative learning GE/ILO. (Statement 4)
 Show connection between the comprehensive report and our PRP process.
(Statement 5)
 Include LOC minutes where the council discussed what should be included on the
comprehensive report. Chair/Director’s meeting minutes where the report was
presented should also be included. (Statement 5)
