A Recommended Style Sheet for the IWGS Writing Awards
Length: Up to 4000 words
Cover Sheet:
1. Each submission must have a cover sheet.
2. Your name and full contact information (including student ID, e-mail and phone
number) should appear ONLY on the cover sheet.
(Please remove your name from all other pages before submitting. The judges
will not see your name.)
3. The cover sheet should also include
a. The category in which you are submitting (Undergraduate or Graduate,
Fiction or Nonfiction).
b. The title for your essay, story, or poem (REQUIRED).
Format:
1. Please check both spelling and grammar before submitting. You are encouraged
to use the UMSL Writing Center or a peer to proofread materials before final submission.
Entries should be
2. Word-processed.
3. Double-spaced.
4. Font: 12 or 14 point in black. (This is 12 point.)
5. Margins: 1” top, bottom, and sides.
6. One side of paper only.
7. Numbered and stapled pages.
8. Please do not use any report covers, folders, or binders.
References:
If you use Footnotes (or Endnotes) and Bibliography, you should use a recognized style
(i.e. Chicago Style, APA style, or MLA Style) consistently throughout the entire essay.


