Course Description:
Students will understand essential points of discussions or speeches in special fields of interest.
Students will communicate about a variety of topics using appropriate syntax and read authentic
material on a variety of topics identifying the main idea including drawing conclusions. Students
will write brief compositions about previously discussed topics.
Course Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:
A. demonstrate understanding of essential points of discussion or speeches of familiar or
unfamiliar topics.
B. demonstrate ability to communicate with appropriate syntax and control of grammatical
patterns in most extended conversations and interviews.
C. apply word analysis and vocabulary skills to determine the meaning of new words in the
context of familiar scenarios.
D. demonstrate understanding of authentic reading materials on common topics and interpret the
meaning of readings on specialized topics.
E. demonstrate ability to write brief compositions on previously discussed topics and exhibit
control of basic grammatical patterns.
F. use Intermediate High 8 structures and forms prescribed by the 1992 California Adult Model
Standards.
