SENSORY TIP SHEET
SENSORY QUALITIES OF THE EXHIBITION: PIONEERS OF FLIGHT
VISION
1. High volume visual sensory information.
2. Many pictures with descriptive text information.
a. Text information not imperative to experience the exhibit.
3. Overhead aircraft.
4. Movie/video to watch.
TOUCH
1. Descriptive text information boxes have raised scratchy and sharp “stars” that may
draw close attention.
AUDITORY
1. Continuous ambient noise within the exhibit.
2. Videos have narration.
3. No quiet spaces in the exhibit.
SENSORY QUALITIES OF THE EXHIBITION: ABOVE and BEYOND
VISUAL
1. HIGH visual sensory information!
2. Continuous flashing lights and bright colors in all of the displays.
3. Visual images change all the time.
4. Lots of pictures and models on display.
5. Could be overstimulating for some!
6. Movie/video to watch.
7. Can take a picture of yourself on a screen.
TOUCH
1. Exhibit space WILL get crowded.
2. Touch screens or touch buttons at EVERY display.
3. Simulated flight control objects, handles, buttons to push and touch.
AUDITORY
1. Continuous LOUD noises!
2. Several of the displays have sounds associated with rockets, jets, airplanes, which
are very loud.
3. There is a quieter space in the back of the space (near the Future Spacecraft model).
MOVEMENT
1. The space can feel cramped.
2. Most exhibits are very close to one another.
3. No stairs in the space.
4. Several of the displays have movement incorporated into their design.
SENSORY QUALITIES OF THE EXHIBITION: EXPLORING THE PLANETS – TAKE A BREAK!
VISUAL
1. A few small screens with continuous images.
2. Many pictures with descriptive text information.
3. SEVERAL models, objects, and replicas on display – not tactile.
4. Large
TOUCH
1. There a few touch screens (2-3).
2. NOT many opportunities for tactile experiences in this space.
AUDITORY
1. VERY quiet environment.
2. Videos have quiet narration.
3. Not a lot of traffic in this space either… so visitor noise is minimal.
MOVEMENT
1. There is a large open space around the “Exploring Pluto” display. This area could be
used for sitting.
2. Exhibits are spread out – plenty of room to move throughout the space.
