“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”. - Nelson Mandela
Interviewing CSUSM’s
Kaitlin Medina
1. How did you decide that the Major Human Development was
for you and what concentration are you?
For the Human Development major I have a concentration in
counseling services. I've always been a people watcher and
wondered why and how people come to be who they are. Along with
this, I've always derived great joy from helping others rather it'd be
through simply listening to them or a random act of kindness.
2. How do you hope to use your degree?
With my degree I hope to work for a non-profit or government
agency that is geared towards social services. Specifically one
involved with Military Vets.
3. When are you set to graduate?
I am set to graduate Spring 2015.
4. Do you hope to continue your education?
Yes, I hope to get my MSW (Masters of Social Work).
5. What steps do you need to complete before you apply for a
Graduate Program?
In order to apply to a graduate program I need to complete the GRE
and obtain letters of recommendation. (If interested in the MSW
program through CSUSM, 500 volunteer hours are preferred upon
entering program.)
6. What do you see yourself doing in 5 years (a company you
may hope to work for, education program in progress, etc.)?
I see myself joining a practice that is geared toward helping Vets
with PTSD and engaged in substance abuse or domestic violence
or both.
7. What are your words of wisdom pertaining to students and
the future?
My words of wisdom pertaining to students and the future are to
always press on, remember why you love your field and work hard.
As long as you do that, you can achieve your goals.

Theory of the Month:
Programmed Theories of Aging
This theory suggests that our lifespan is already determined by our
genes, so in a sense we are a clock which is ticking away.
Fortunately, we are learning that what we eat, where we live, what
we do can alter our genes allowing us to live longer.
