Begin with the End
In Mind
BY AMY FRAZIER
From Alice’s Adventures in
Wonderland….
“WOULD you tell me please which way I ought to walk from here?” asked Alice
“That depends a good deal on where you want to get to.” said the Cat.
“I don’t much care where – “ said Alice.
“Then it doesn’t matter which way to walk.” said the Cat.
You may not realize it, but…
You do it all the time. Begin with the
end in mind, that is. You draw up a
blueprint before you build a house.
You read a recipe before you bake a
cake. You create an outline before
you write a paper (at least I hope you
do). It’s part of life.
The Crossroads Of Life
Let’s take a look at the first important reason. So here you are. You’re
young. You’re free. You have your whole life before you. You’re
standing at the crossroads of life and you have to choose which paths
to take…
Crossroads….

Do you want to go to college?

Do you want to travel?

Should you try out for a team?

What type of friends do you want to have?

Will you drink, smoke or do drugs?

What will your attitude be?

What will you stand for?
The paths you choose today….
Can shape you forever. It’s both frightening and exciting that we have
to make so many important decisions during our childhood, when
we’re so young.
If you don’t choose a path or goal in life,
someone will choose it for you!
What about friends??

Friends have a powerful influence on your attitude, reputation and
direction in life. Choose them CAREFULLY!
What about school??
What you do about going to school and taking it seriously can also
shape your future in a major way. You take school serious, your future
will go places in a serious way.
Who’s in the lead??
Besides being at a crossroads of the most important decisions you’ll
ever make, the other reason to visualize your future is because if you
don’t, someone else will do it for you…..
Who then? Family, friends, media to name a few. Do you want your
friends to tell you what to stand for? Do you want to adopt the values
portrayed in video games or gossip blogs or on TV?
Without an end in mind of our
own…
We often wind up following anyone who’s willing to lead, even into
things that won’t get us far.
Personal Mission Statement
So if it’s important to have the end in mind, how do you do it?
Write a personal mission statement. A motto that states what your life is
about. It’s like a blueprint to your life.
Examples of Mission Statements…

I will have confidence in myself and everyone else around me. I will
be kind and respectful to all people. I will set goals that I can reach
and never lose sight in them. I will also ask questions if I don’t know
the answers and speak with actions not just with words.
Another Example of a Mission
Statement

I will never lose sight of my goals. I appreciate other’s differences
and see that their differences has a great advantage in my life. I will
make time to help those who need my help. I will strive each day to
have a great attitude and be thankful always.
