Approval of the Minutes
 The Minutes were approved as presented with the exception of an excerpt
missing from a statement made by J. Wyatt.
IV.
Approval of the Agenda
 The Agenda was approved as presented after a few initial comments.
 Comments:
 Did we not move the Public Comment section to before New
Business (J. Wyatt)?
 It was moved upon request for only last week’s meeting (I.
Poste).
 It makes no sense to have comments before New Business
because people will bring things up during the agenda items (D.
Charles).
 We should permanently leave Public Comment at the end
because some people come to the meetings late (C. Enemuoh).

Old Business
6.1 Dana White
 After being unable to vote for Dana White to come speak to our school at the
last meeting, a vote was cast at this meeting to see if we would like him to
speak, and, if so, during this fall or next spring. The cost for Dana White to
speak at our school is $3,000. If there is 300 or more students, he will refund
the school $1,500 back, thus making his appearance at our school a total of
$1,500.
 Recommendation to approve $3,000 for Dana White to speak to El
Camino College. Recommendation will be sent to the Finance Committee
for final approval of money. Motion by A. Nader, Seconded by I. Poste.
Motion passed.
 Comments:
 Maybe we could try to make Dana White’s speech a workshop
meeting for HTP (I. Poste)?
 Would the individuals pay or should ASO pay for this event (J.
Barba)?
 We would get more of an outcome if it was free.
 It would be better to not show Dana White’s picture on his flier
because his appearance may dissuade people from attending (C.
Enemuoh).
 It would be better to have Dana White speak in the spring. It would
give us time to promote him and teachers could use his speech as extra
credit for their students (J. Udeochu).
 If we were to charge for this event, could we make it free to students
with an ASB sticker or charge $10, the cost of an ASB sticker (E.
Yerelian)?
 Can he come to one of our meetings so we can get a taste of his
personality (S. Hong)?
 I will ask him about coming to one of our Senate meetings (A. Nader).

Reports
7.1 ASO Member Reports
7.1.1 – D. Charles
 The CCCSAA convention had a wonderful turnout. Many workshops were
attended, including one called “The Benefits of ASO in Transferring.”
“Icebreakers” were implemented to have students from various schools get to
know each other and become more comfortable in each other’s presence.
 Comments:
 We should not wait for students to come and ask us about our
organization, but rather we should get to know the students. We
should introduce ourselves to classes so they know about what we do
(D. Charles).
 I agree with Deyja. Senators should get more involved in the
classroom and introduce themselves (E. Yerelian).
 ASO could set up a table along the library on Club Day to let people
know who we are and what ASO does. Maybe you could have a bake
sale to help with fundraising (B. Davis).
 We should have more fun events (E. Yerelian).
7.1.2 – C. Enemuoh
 A committee meeting was recently held. Dr. Nishime and the other
members present suggested that we do some research on any already
existing smoking policies and/or state laws before we make a decision on
how to regulate it on campus. There was discussion on how to make
students more aware of the current 20 feet law as well.
 The committee meeting also discussed El Camino College’s recycling
issue. It will cost ASO approximately $75 for every pick up of the
recyclables. It is too expensive, but an ICC representative said he might be
able to provide a cheaper alternative for ASO to consider.
 Maybe we could try getting a bus pass for students at a reasonable rate to
help save gasoline and help with the parking situation?
7.1.3 – J. Udeochu
 The school may be trying to put limits on how many times you can drop
classes.
7.1.4 – E. Yerelian
 Dr. Nishime is looking to support ASO by possibly making all students
who would like a bus pass purchase an ASB sticker instead.
7.1.5 – S. Hong
 Our SLO was great overall, but we do need to improve in other areas. The
accreditation team is supposed to come every six years to assess our school,
but they can come whenever they please. Financial aid could be ceased if
we do not meet the standards.

to dress up as elves or as Santa Clause.
 Try-outs for the Homecoming 2008 Talent Show were and are being
conducted.
 Many clubs are having bake sales as fundraisers.
7.3 Committee Reports – C. Jones
 The threat of mid-year cuts is significant.
7.4 Adviser Reports – None
